I visited Beatrice three times over two years in Padibe Internally Displaced Person's camp in Northern Uganda (2006-2008). This work pairs images with both Beatrice's and my own texts, re-presenting our relationship and my encounter with her reality of conflict, displacement and motherhood.

"Her Name is Beatrice, My Name is Lara: experiences in witnessing, internal displacement and conflict in Northern Uganda" is a documentary project comprised of the following components: a publication, photo-based installations, video-based installations, presentations and a paper. The elements work together to examine documentary's potentials and pitfalls in critical "witnessing", while exploring how voices from girls living in the center of conflict can challenge dominant media and humanitarian narratives.
